• What is the difference between a 1-channel, 2-channel, and 3-channel dash cam?

  • 1-Channel: A single camera that records only the road ahead.
  • 2-Channel (Front & Rear): Includes a second camera for the rear window to capture tailgaters and rear-end collisions.
  • 3-Channel (Front, Rear & Cabin): Includes an interior-facing camera. This is the gold standard for Uber, Lyft, and taxi drivers to record passenger interactions.

• What is Parking Mode and how does it work?

  Parking Mode allows your camera to record even when your engine is off. It usually triggers by Motion Detection (someone walking near the car) or a G-Sensor (if the car is bumped).

• Do dash cams record audio inside the car?

  Yes, most dash cams have a built-in microphone to record cabin audio. However, this can be disabled in the settings if you prefer privacy. In some states, you are legally required to notify passengers if you are recording audio.

• Will a dash cam drain my car battery?

  If plugged into a standard 12V cigarette lighter outlet that turns off with the ignition, it will not drain your battery. If the outlet stays on or if you have it hardwired for Parking Mode, a Battery Discharge Prevention device (built into most high-end hardwire kits) will automatically shut off the camera if your car battery drops below a certain voltage.

• What kind of SD card do I need?

  Most dash cams use and include a microSD card as their standard memory card.

• What is Loop Recording?

  This is a standard feature where the camera records in short clips (usually 1–3 minutes). When the SD card is full, the camera automatically deletes the oldest unprotected file to make room for the new one. This ensures you never have to manually clear the card.

• Can a dash cam lower my insurance premiums?

  In the U.S., most insurance companies do not offer a direct "dash cam discount" yet. However, the camera saves you money indirectly by providing irrefutable evidence in a "your word against theirs" accident, preventing you from being found at fault and seeing your rates spike.

• Is it legal to mount a dash cam on my windshield?

  In most areas in the US, it is legal as long as it does not obstruct the driver's line of sight. Some states (like California and Minnesota) have specific rules about exactly where on the glass the camera can be placed (usually the bottom corners or behind the rearview mirror).
